SSI & BiSS

Hengstler Absolute shaft encoders comprise a series known as ACURO. All are CE marked, RoHS compliant, and the standard AC58 (58mm housing) is UL approved. You have a choice of 3 body sizes, with the widest range of shaft options and highest IP rating available within the AC58 model.

SSI & BiSS

SSI (Synchronous Serial Interface) was the original standard used for the exchange of digital data between an encoder and a controller. BiSS (Bi-directional Synchronous Serial Interface) supercedes this protocol, and is reverse compatible with SSI. The bi-directional feature enables a BiSS enabled controller to address internal registers in the encoder itself, i.e. temperature or acceleration and allows recovery of data drop out. BiSS masters can communicate with up to 8 slaves over longer cable runs, and at higher baud rates than SSI.

The physical layer of SSI and BiSS is identical, using 2 twisted pairs of cables for clock and data and 2 wires for power.
