Incremental

The Hengstler Heavy Duty range of incremental encoders include 7 models designed for extreme conditions and harsh duty. These rugged devices will operate between -40°C and +100°C, have high shock and vibration resistance, with wash down resistant stainless and nickel plated versions. There are hollow and solid shaft heavy duty encoders.

Wind Turbines

Hengstler heavy duty encoders include ATEX and NEMA approvals. Not every heavy duty encoder has ATEX approval. To help you select the correct encoder for your application we have summarised ATEX options in the table below. ATEX approval of Hengstler encoders limits the maximum temperature to 80°C and requires electrical connections to be ATEX approved.

Heavy Duty Encoders are used for position feedback and motor control in harsh environments. Examples include drawworks, topdrive and pipe handling in the oil industry, wind power plants (pitch control), gantry cranes, presses and offshore rigs. In these instances an encoder may require special surface treatment and protection seals, extreme operating temperature ranges, and high shock & vibration resistance. Encoder specification also has to consider radial load, speed, bearing life and electrical isolation. Control communication protocols can confuse the unwary! Heavy Duty Encoders
Absolute

The Hengstler Absolute Encoder range includes models designed for standard industrial applications, advanced bus interfaces, and special products for high ambient temperatures. These are shown elsewhere on this site, and are included on the part numbers list.

One product stands out as a heavy duty absolute encoder because of it's ruggedness. The Hengstler AR62/63, sometimes known as the ACURO-XRobust has high radial load and shock resistance specifications, heavy duty bearings and is fully submersible. It is rated for us in ambient temperatures of -40°C to +100°C as standard.
